note: we are noticing a trend for m3 engines to be overfilled with oil by dealers after the 1st service - is this to counteract an oil feed problem?
engine problem: extreme wear of no.2 crankshaft bearing shell (photo attached below), reasons suspected, either (i) manufacturing defect in the shell, i.e. insufficient heat treatment to harden material, (ii) oil starvation at the crankcase, or (iii) over-fuelling leading to fuel bypassing the piston rings and diluting lubrication at the bearing shell.
